Foods to Avoid Acne
Posted: May 07, 2012
Acne, characterised by small red bumps to large red and white bumps on face, is not caused by a single reason. Even though it is widely developed due to hormonal changes, for instance, teenage acne, acne during pregnancy, etc.; food habits is the major cause that aggravates the condition. Many people prefer to have the ‘on the go meal’ or canned foods, or instant meals in a hurry, without knowing the dangerous effects of those foods on skin. Here is the list of foods to avoid acne.
Oily Foods:
Oil is the major enemy of the good and healthy skin. Oil foods enhance the sebaceous glands present in the skin and induce to produce more sebum, a form of oil, which makes the skin oilier. Increased production of sebum and hyperactive oil glands blocks the breathing of skin. This results with lack of oxygen supply to the skin cells, leading towards developing acne in the skin. Prominent oily foods to avoid include the deep fried and roasted foods like meat, chicken, fish, sweets cooked with more ghee and oil, fast food items like finger chips, etc.
Canned and Tinned Foods:
These foods are prepared with artificial flavours and preservatives to maintain the freshness. In reality, these artificial flavours, colouring agents and preservatives are unhealthy, leaving the immediate effect on the skin.
Fat Foods:
Fat is one of the important nutrients for the body, yet excessive amount of fat ruins the health. Eating more amounts of fat rich foods works similar like oily food content. Fat foods can be easily replaced with respective healthier as well as delicious alternatives. Some of the foods rich in fat include butter, cream, cheese, roasted and fried meat, cakes, chocolates, etc. which can be replaced with skimmed milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese, steamed meat, organic chocolates and so on.
Carbonated Drinks:
Consuming carbonated drinks is believed to enhance the digestion, is actually a greatest hazard to the health. It fills in the tissues and cells of the body with toxins. Toxins settled in the skin spoil the skin and breakout the acne. Instead of carbonated drinks, red wine in smaller quantity, fresh fruit juices, herbal tea, etc. can be consumed to avoid acne.
