It is not easy to brush your child’s teeth or ensuring that your kid has brushed them. In today’s hustle and bustle of daily routines, there are high chances of your children’s brushing getting shortened sometimes, on occasion flossing gets skipped, and appointments get pushed back. But still, the importance of proper oral care is still important and undeniable.

Are you one of those parents who are experiencing trouble getting your kids to practice proper oral hygiene? If the answer is "yes", then you are not alone.

Here is a list of eight fun and creative tips which will help you teaching the children the importance of good oral care.

  1. Lead by example. Children always idolize you (parents) and they pay attention more than parents actually realize. If they see their parents practicing good oral hygiene habits, chances are that they will follow the same. This also includes brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits. If possible, brush your teeth with your kids, especially in the morning.
  2. Educate them. It is important to educate your children about proper dental care. However, any lesson taught by the dentists are not effective until they are not repeatedly practiced at home. Moreover, it is important to teach the children about the dangers of tooth decay, gum diseases, and cavities. And the formal way of cleaning them.
  3. Let them decide. It is better to let the children decide about oral care accessories. Let them explore and take the decision of toothbrushes, tooth pastes and other accessories for oral hygiene. Just make sure they are approved by governmental health regulatory bodies. Allow them to pick their favorite one. This will make their teeth cleaning experience more personal and will give them a sense of independence.
  4. Set a timer for cleaning. Cleaning your teeth for 2 minutes is important. Make it easy and enjoyable for them. It can be done by things like playing their favorite song etc.
  5. Try different flavors. Today you will find a wide range of great flavors under one toothpaste brand. So, do not hesitate trying mixing up different flavors. Your children may dislike one flavor and end up liking another flavor which means a better focus on brushing teeth. So try different flavors

Most important thing. Are you kids scared of the dentist?

There is a good number of children who are scared of visiting the dentist. Try playing dentist games with them to gradually reduce their fear level. Moreover, choose a dentist who has a good reputation with kids and who knows how to bring them in comfort zone.

These fun tips might help to encourage the good habit of oral cleaning at home.
