As a software tester, you are involved in the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment. You will perform automated and manual tests to make sure the software designed by developers is fit for usage or not. Software testing includes the analysis of software, and systems, to avert risk and prevent software issues.

Your job role is essential to the creation of software systems and technical products containing vehicles, electronic goods, and healthcare.

Ultimately software testers are employed to find bugs and issues within a product before it gets deployed to everyday users. You will get a chance to work on independent projects or multinational projects crossing the globe and costing billions of dollars. You will need to be, or become, familiar with programming and using coding languages. Assessing code is one part of the role of a software tester.

Responsibilities

Your role will vary depending on project requirements. You will get to work on a project at the initial implementation levels to assess potential risks.when testing becomes a key requirement.

Salary

  • Starting salaries for graduate-level software testing positions are in the region of 18 k to 24 k (depending on location and company size).
  • With 3 to 5 years of experience salaries can rise significantly. Software testers earn on average 35 k to 50 k.

Salaries may vary according to location, technical knowledge and the sector. Some large organizations also provide bonus schemes, benefits,incentives,allowances and overtime payments.

What to expect

  • Work is mainly office based and you will spend the majority of your time at a computer.
  • Your role may be exhausting at times, especially around the time of project completion.
  • Once you have acquired good enough experience, you could progress into the freelance and contracting market. This would enable you to select specific projects and work more flexibly.
  • The IT Field, involving software testing roles, has a larger ratio of male to female workers.But, there is a larger ratio of female to male software testers when compared with other IT jobs (such as software development).
