Some useful info about CompTIA Security+ 2017 SY0-501
Posted: Jul 28, 2017
When is the New Security+ SY0-501 release date?
It’s bit early to guess about new CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 exam but by taking an educated guess into consideration we are here with some useful information which is as under:
The existing Security+ SY0-401 exam was released in May 2014 and will expire in July 2018. And according to CompTIA’s renewal schedule, it renews all its major certifications after every three years (which includes Security + SY0-401 certification also). It seems likely that new release update of Security+ SY0-401 will be in the summer/fall of the year 2017. The old Security+ SY0-301 exam was retired on December 31, 2014, and then CompTIA had an overlap period of several months in which it allowed candidates to choose between SY0-301 and SY0-401. Similarly, if the Security+ SY0-501 exam goes live in October 2017, candidates will probably be able to still take the current Security+ SY0-401 exam until July 2018. On the basis of latest updates up till now, the CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 exam will be launched on 4th October 2017.
Security+ Exam Details
CompTIA Security+ certification exam includes network security, compliance and operation security, vulnerabilities and threats along with the application, data and host security. Access control, identity management, and cryptography are also covered in this certification exam.
Multiple choice and performance-based questions will be presented in the exam. This Security+ certification exam requires CompTIA Network+ and two years of experience in IT administration with a security focus as a pre-requisite. The exam will retire three years after launch. The exam cost is $ 320.00 USD.
Important Note:
CompTIA Security+ certification is valid for three years from the exam date. No matter when you took the exam before its retirement date. For example, if you will pass the current Security+ SY0-401 in the summer of 2017 then that credential will be valid till 2020 even if the new Security+ SY0-501 exam is released by the end of 2017.
Should you take Security+ SY0-401 now or hold off for the Security+ SY0-501 exam?
It depends generally on when you need to be certified. If you want to delay your career then, of course, wait. But a better approach is to grab the certification today. If you really need or desire to acquire the Security+ certification, then study for and take the exam that is available at present. There is a very important fact that CompTIA Security+ or any other CompTIA certification is always valid for three years from the date you pass the exam. If your certification tenure overlaps the new exam, you’ll still be certified for the rest of the time period till three years have ended. It really doesn’t matter when hiring managers demand you the certification they rarely care what your score was when you passed and they also don’t care what version you take. Security+ certified professional has its own worth.
However, there are other thoughts too. One is that when we talk about technology specially IT Security then "Latest is the best" and it always has its appeal and demand. So if you still did not take Security+ SY0-501 Practice Guide then you should wait for just 2 months and when new Security+ SY0-501 exam will be released you may take that latest exam.
