It may seem daunting to take care of an electric motorcycle if you have never had one before, but the task is simpler than it seems. Here are a few tips to keep your e-bike in tip top condition:
- Keep it clean. This is one of the most underrated tips—but it is extremely important. Keeping your e-bike clean is the simplest way to extend its useful life. Build-up of dirt and grime can cause a myriad of problems like corrosion and even motor failure and breakdowns. It is also easier to see faults on a clean bike so you can nip problems in the bud before they get out of hand.
- Lubrication. Your bike has a lot of moving parts, all of which need some form of lubricant to ensure their smooth operation. Making sure that bearing joints, axles, and sprockets are well oiled and greased can prevent undue wear and tear on those components, saving you from having to pay steep repair costs in the long run. If you are unsure of how to do this, you can bring your bike to a specialist centre that specifically caters to electric motorbikes in UK and have them do the work for you.
- Check tire pressure. Bike tires will work better when they are properly inflated. Over inflated tires tend to get stretched and wear down faster—not to mention give you a bad ride. Under inflated or flat tires can also get damaged because the hubs can hurt the tire sidewalls when they push against the depressurized rubber. They can likewise result to poor economy, putting more stress on your motor and running down your batteries faster.
- Mind your battery, which is perhaps the most important part of your electric motorcycle. Look up the proper charging times and procedure for your particular battery to prolong its life. Avoid undercharging and regularly check for damage or leaks. Replacement batteries can be costly, so proper battery care and maintenance is in order.
