Basic Feature Differences between Cheap & Expensive Sunglasses

When you try search for sunglasses online or look around in shops, you will quickly notice that there are two basic choices: cheap sunglasses and expensive options. While they may look the same from afar, they are actually not. Yes—they are both made from two pieces of glasses that are tinted—but there are significant differences in the quality and functionality of their lenses and frames. The more you know about why some expensive glasses are priced the way they are, the more you will appreciate them.

Before getting into the difference between cheap and expensive sunglasses, you must first understand what a good pair of sunnies should be able to do for you.

First, it must be capable of protecting you from the harmful UV rays. The UV rays from the sun can harm your cornea and retina, and a good pair of sunglasses can block the UV rays entirely.

Second, your sunglasses should protect your eyes from intense light. When too much light enters your eyes, your retina can get damaged. Using the right sunglasses will block the light that enters your eyes by up to 97 percent.

Good sunglasses can also protect your eyes from glare. When a great amount light is reflected from certain surfaces such as water, the glare can be distracting or it can keep some objects out of sight. Protection from glare is important especially when you are driving.

If you choose to use cheap sunglasses, you won’t get the benefits that a good pair should provide. In fact, poorly made lenses might even worsen the condition of your eyes. For instance, if you use sunglasses that do not have UV protection, you are increasing your eyes’ exposure to UV rays. Because cheap sunglasses do not let some of the light in, your iris may open to allow more light to enter. And the more UV light is also allowed to enter, the more your retina becomes susceptible to damage.

Meanwhile, if you purchase your sunglasses from reputable and well-known brands, you can rest assured that you will be provided with the protection that you need. These sunglasses may be on the expensive side, but they will allow you to shield your eyes from damage and help you save money in the long run.
