Many people would like to lose weight. Unfortunately, extra weight isthe tip of the iceberg. A diet lacking in nutrition and filled with damaging foods wreaks havoc on the whole human body. The truth is, there are so many food products that have been created over the past years, that most people don't even know exactly what they are eating anymore.

Food has become complex and confusing with the use of refined ingredients, processed foods, added sugars, chemicals and hormones that are damaging to our cells. What ever happened to the days of simply eating an apple without worrying about it being organic or non-GMO? Are there any diet programs out there that are based on the simple truths of what the body needs?

A great starting place is clean eating. It is diet program that takes food back to the basics. The body simply needs energy from glucose, fats and proteins. It also needs fiber, water, vitamins and minerals. Anything in excess of those basics, is considered not "clean." Here are just some of the basic guidelines that can help you get back on track:

  • Eat the Right Carbohydrates (glucose source) – Carbohydrates are the easiest source of fuel available for our bodies. They contain glucose in simple or complex forms that is easily broken down by the body and converted into energy. Nature provides great carbohydrate sources in fruits, vegetables and even whole grains.
  • The ugly step sister of healthy carbs are refined carbs. Watch out for foods that have been processed such as refined table sugar and refined white flour. Another natural carbohydrate that is best to eat in moderation is the potato. These cause the body to go a bit crazy inside, triggering the stress response, spiking blood sugar levels and resulting in the rapid storage of fat in the cells.
  • Healthy Fats- Fats have been unrightfully given a bad name. Despite popular belief, fat does not equal fat on the body. A more true statement is excess sugar=fat. Healthy fats are very beneficial to the body. The best sources of fat are natural and come in the form of nuts, fish, avocadoes and oils. The best oils are those that have minimal processing such as coconut and olive. They also help boost our brain health.

Fats to avoid include those which contain trans-fats which are commonly created during heating procedures. These can cause free radical damage in the cells, which eventually leads to cancer.

  • Lean Protein –Chicken, turkey and fish are great sources that have healthy levels of fat. Protein helps to build the tissues within the body and can also be converted into energy in the absence of glucose.Protein is especially important for those living an active lifestyle to replenish muscle stores.

If you follow this clean eating diet program, you can enjoy the diversity of flavors, while dropping pant sizes.Clean eating will not only show the results on the outside, you can also be sure that you will have better looking skin and internal organs.
