The walkie-talkie apps are in use for past few years and Voxer walkie-talkie app which is frequently used for the purpose. The initial interest in such apps is waning due to many challenges they come with. Let’s check out their pros and cons:

Benefits:

With Voxer app, you can send voice, text, and photos with ease. It comes with a clean interface and fast response. The app is easy to use in push-to-talk scenarios as well. A key advantage of using the app is that it maintains the chat history. These can be accessed easily by the users. And when the users want they can send the texts and the pictures in no time at all. All you have to do is to toggle the speakerphone to get the complete walkie-talkie experience. They can also be used to leave small notes for you.

Limitations:

In the common version of the app, you can add up to five people per group. Although the search function offers some challenges while searching for the names in the contacts list. But the app comes with clear audio and fast response that makes it attractive. It is most useful when you have to coordinate with rather small groups of people.

So Can An App Replace Real Walkie-Talkie Device?

Not really! With the inconsistent speed of transmission, push-to-talk is a challenge with some of them. To be viable, the push-to-talk services need to be near instantaneous, so when a user pushes the PTT button on the device, there has to be no delay from the time PTT button is pushed. One of the biggest challenges of using the apps is that the users have to push many buttons before they can talk. It becomes very irritating and is also one of many reasons behind the waning popularity of these apps.

Other Reasons For Failure Of The Apps Internet Connection

Walkie–talkie apps need to access the internet to be able to talk, and this becomes a limitation in those places where there is no internet or very slow internet. Although the apps claim to have worked with the slowest data connection, even that becomes a challenge at times.

Phone Size

Those users who are accustomed to using the walkie-talkie find the phone bulky and tougher to use, which makes these apps even more unwanted.

Conclusion

While Voxer walkie-talkie app does have some benefits but it can’t replace the devices entirely.
