Facts about migraine attacks, their causes and symptoms

Many people are affected by migraine attacks these days. It is a chronic neurological disorder which is characterized by severe headaches. There are many types of migraines such as menstrual migraine, abdominal migraine, retinal migraine and basilar artery migraine.

  • Menstrual migraine- During a menstrual cycle, the hormonal level of estrogens fluctuates to a great extent. During this time many women are seen to suffer from a severe sinus headache which is known as menstrual migraine.
  • Abdominal migraine- This type of migraine is accompanied along with mild to severe pain in the pain, nausea as well as vomiting. Abdominal migraine can last for 6 days. It is mostly seen in children who have a family history of it.
  • Retinal migraine- This type of migraine attacks are not always accompanied by headaches but they cause total loss or temporary partial loss of vision in any one of the eye. Retinal migraine usually lasts for 60 minutes or less.
  • Basilar artery migraine- Severe sinus headache in the back of the head is main symptom of basilar artery migraine. A change in the hormonal level is the main cause of this migraine attack and it also causes dizziness, visual as well as hearing problems.

Causes of migraine attacks- The causes for migraine attacks varies from one person to another but people who have experienced dangerous sinus headache, the root cause of such attacks are the same in those cases. There are many things that cause migraine attack.

  • Insufficient sleep
  • Hormonal changes during menstrual cycle or pregnancy
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption

All these above things are known to trigger migraine attacks along with severe sinus headaches.

  • Drinking water from plastic cups and plastic bottles causes migraine attacks that is accompanied by headaches- The gender- bending chemical which is present in the synthetic packaging of plastic cups and plastic bottles not only cause pregnancy related problems in women but is also seen to trigger the migraine attacks. Bisphenol A is the chemical which is present in the plastic cups and plastic bottles and thus is responsible for causing severe migraine headaches which affects many people. Hence to prevent such chronic neurological disorder, one should stop the exposure to bisphenol A by avoiding any usage of plastic cups and plastic bottles. Use of plastic cups and plastic bottles can also worsen the symptoms that are associated with migraine attacks.

Symptoms that are associated with migraine attacks-

  • A migraine or sinus headache causes pain that is usually present at one side of the head. These headaches usually last for 3-4 hours to even 3 days.
  • These headaches thus causes sleeping problem as well as makes it difficult for a person to work.
  • A person who is affected by migraine attacks not only experience a headache but also suffers from extreme sensitivity to light, smell as well as sound.

Other symptoms of migraine attacks-

  • Nausea along with weakness are the two other symptoms that are associated with migraine attacks.
  • It may also cause a person to faint.

Most of these symptoms can occur before the attack or during the attack or even after the attack and is thus seen to affect a person several times during a month and also for several hours and sometime even for 1 day.
