Essential Features of Metral® Connectors
Posted: Sep 19, 2017
From backplane connectors to coax connectors and cable connectors, Metral® family offers you a wide range of products that provide multiple solutions for your design requirements. This article will help you to get a brief idea on a few products that serve different industries:
Metral® Power Connectors
Designed in accordance with IEC 61076-4-104 and Telcordia GR-1217-CORE standards, these high power, and coax connectors are standalone modules. With a current rating of 3 to 40A per pin, these are end-to-end stackable with other power, signal and coax modules. The pins with varying length enable first-mate, last-break capability.
The interchangeable solution offered by these connectors and its sequential connection of pins allow design flexibility along with protection. It also offers Press-fit, Solder-to-Board and Pin-in-Paste terminations. With its compact size and small footprint, it caters to different application requirements. Strong electrical reliability that withstands vibration is another quality that counts. Apart from this Power-coax couplers and Mini coax connectors are also available. This power connector can be used for different applications like Communications, Data, Industrial & Instrumentation, and Medical.
Metral® Cable Connectors
Metral® Cable Connectors is designed to meet Cable-to-Board interface requirements. They are available in single and multi-module configurations. They come in 4 and 5 row versions and mates with vertical as well as right angle headers. These connectors offer high signal density and its flexible modular length avoids any loss of contact. These connectors can accommodate different connector sizes and hence can be used for different applications like Telecom, Industrial & Instrumentation, and Medical.
Metral® HDXS IO Connector
Targeting mainly the telecom industry, Metral HDXS IO Connector are cable-to-board connectors. They are commonly used in high-end applications like Telecom Access Equipment (ADSL/VDSL) and Base Stations. To comply with ANSI requirements of resistibility to over voltages up to 2500V, it is designed with minimum guaranteed clearance and creep-age distances. These features make it perfect for high-density cable-to-board interfaces like ADSL/VDSL as well as for harsh environments and other demanding telecom applications.
Apart from the 6-row version of right angle headers with press-fit and pin-in-paste terminations, it is also available in low-profile versions and customized PIN loading formats. These connectors are flexible in size and allow horizontal and vertical routing and minimum layer count. In these connectors, electrical discharge is guaranteed even before the mating of signal contacts. Size flexibility, enhanced SI performance, EMC shielding, and high reliability are other key features. In short, you get to choose ample solutions for your specific requirements from the Metral® family.
