Design: This is another important point to consider before buying an acoustic guitar. The moment you figure out the basics of a guitar, it would automatically become easier to buy the right one. Acoustic guitar has two important parts such as:

• Neck: Acoustic guitars come with set neck in which it is attached to the body and terminates at the headstock. Neck’s top of guitar is mounted with fretboard and the back portion is designed to support guitarist fretting hand. Extra support is provided by a heel at the back where neck touches guitar’s body. There is no need to worry that the guitar’s neck would twist or bow because of string tension and other factors as it comes with a metal truss rod. Fretboard which is commonly made from rosewood or ebony is a separate piece attached to neck.
• Headstock: It is located on top of the neck and has tuning keys, machine heads or tuning pegs. Headstock is used to change pitches by adjusting the tension of strings. A small plastic strip known as nut is located where neck meets headstock and helps to guide strings to fretboard. It can also be made of graphite, bone or other material.
• Body: It has a top, sides and back forming a hollow structure supported by internal bracing. The upper and lower body has curves and middle portion is called as waist. Sound and playability of guitar depends largely on its shape and size. Choose the right type of guitar which suits your musical and physical needs as well. At the base of fretboard, waist has a sound hole which projects the sound. Look for protective pick-guard made from different materials. Strings are mounted on the bridge which pins anchor each string. It transforms vibrations of the strings to the top of guitar, producing various types of sounds; this process is often termed as projection.
