Smartphones nowadays constantly outdo each previous model with faster processors, smarter AI’s and better camera, but one aspect where it always fails to reach expectations is its battery life. Of course, this can be rectified with things like power banks but this is not a practical solution. But there are also situations where you have charged your smartphone and you are still not getting a good battery life. This could either mean you need a new battery or a new phone. Most of the phones nowadays make use of Lithium ion batteries. But just like every other electronic, over time these lithium ion batteries lose their charge at a higher rate or don’t charge at all. There are a couple of methods one can use to check if their smartphone needs a new battery.

One obvious sign is if their smartphone is dead. It could also mean you dropped your phone in water but that can be easily identified and eliminated. But if you have charged your device and you still cannot get the phone to switch on, it could mean the battery is dead. Some devices have removable covers that allow a user to change the batteries themselves. There are some devices such as the iPhone where the battery is kept behind a sealed case that a user cannot access. In the event you have an iPhone, you will have to take it to an iphone battery replacement centre to get the new battery installed.

Another indication of a dying battery is if the battery cannot power your device using its stored energy and only works when the phone is plugged into the charger. Keep your smartphone plugged in for an adequate time so it can charge and if the smartphone still does not power up without the charger, then you might have to go for a new battery.

Similar to the previous indication, if your phone shows a full charge and yet dies soon or before the advertised time limit, it could indicate a failure in the battery. This is not a sure fast way of confirming though because a number of things can provoke a high battery drain. If you play games frequently, surf the web a lot and live in an area with poor reception you could experience a faster battery drain than what is usual. You can consider getting a power bank to remedy this problem.

Have you noticed your phone unexpectedly heating up as you are using it? Is it a problem you have not had before? This could be another sign of a failing battery. It is true that a rechargeable battery emits heat while charging, but these batteries keep the heat inside the smartphone so that it does not affect the user. If you are feeling an increase in heat, it could be a problem of the battery. Check up with the surrounding temperatures before jumping to a conclusion as the hot weather could be a factor for this too. These are just a few ways you can check if you need a new battery.
