The conveyor system is mechanical handling equipment that is used to move material from one location to another. Conveyors are popular in material handling and packaging industries as they allow quick and efficient transportation for a wide variety of materials. Conveyor system belts can be overhead conveyor systems and floor type systems.

Application industries of conveyor:

  1. Automotive
  2. Agricultural
  3. Computer
  4. Electronic
  5. Food
  6. Processing
  7. Aerospace
  8. Bottling
  9. Canning
  10. Print finishing
  11. Packaging

Have a look at the 7 things you need to know about the conveyor system:

1. Different kinds of conveyor belts:

There are specifically two types of conveyor belts that are used for indoor and outdoor purposes and these are:

i) One piece conveyor belts- these belts are often used as primary conveyors. These conveyor belts are often very long and broadly of two types i.e. conveyor belts with a solid belt and conveyor belts with mesh surface.

ii) Portable belts- these are traditional belts that can be dismantled and can be moved into components without tools.

2. Maximum capacity of conveyors:

The capacity of the conveyor belt is an amalgamation of the belt speed, the distance between the products being conveyed, and a continuous supply of products. Belt speed is often adjustable and can be geared towards a particular speed and the stability of the products being conveyed. The spacing depends on the shape and the dimensions of the products. Continuity, on the other hand, is determined by coordinating related processes and reliability.

3. What else is needed in a conveyer belt system other than the conveyor belts?

Conveyor belt system is a network of permanent belts in combination with the portable belts. In addition to the conveyor belts, a control system is also needed to determine the setup of the belt system. There is a variety of control system i.e. it can be permanently wired or modular, portable, wireless system, or a combination of both. Powered or not- powered belt units are also needed depending on the stability of the plants.

4. How much maintenance is needed for the conveyor belts?

It depends on the type of conveyor belt and the purpose it is used for. Less maintenance is needed for a conveyor belt with few moving parts than the conveyor belts having a lot of moving parts. The temperature and humidity conditions also affect the maintenance of the conveyor belts.

5. How long do conveyor belts last?

It depends on how the conveyor belts are used i.e. in what conditions they are used and how they are maintained. Portable belts usually have higher residual value because they can be used anywhere without the need of technical modifications. Fixed conveyor belts can be often dismantled and reassembled and this feature affects their residual value.

  1. Before you buy conveyor belt- know the purpose for which you are buying conveyor belts and then ask about the number of moving parts, the type of the belt material and the expected life span.
  2. The payback period of the belts- it depends on how it is used, how many times in a year it is used and how much work does it save.

Know these 7 things before you buy the conveyor belts and choose the best conveyor system manufacturer.
