With captive taste and brilliant aroma, the malty-flavoured Assam tea is worldwide famed. Spread over a sprawling area of 216200 hectares, the tea gardens not only add to the picturesque panorama of Assam but also give employment to people living there. The climate and soil of Assam is perfect for growing tea. There are 100 of tea estates in Assam but the ones worth visiting are:

Mangalam Tea Estate: This humongous tea garden of Assam is famous for its finest quality of Assam CTC and Orthodox tea. The production here, being of premium quality has a very high demand all over the market. The Orthodox blends of this estate are even exported to Germany, thus, making a great deal of profit. The beautiful and well-planned bush plantation of this estate will win your heart and increase your love for nature.

Meleng Tea Estate: This tea estate is located on the bank of the River Meleng and therefore named after it. This is one of the oldest tea gardens in the region, founded by an entrepreneur named J.E.Todd in the year 1852. Various seeds of Jat and Clonal materials are sown here to obtain a high-quality beverage. The gross yield of Meleng is over 1500 kg per hectare and is awarded twice by the tea board for producing best quality tea.

Towkok Tea Estate: It is one of the most famous gardens in the state. Surrounded by government reserve forest and inhabited by a variety of wildlife, Towkok is spread over an area of more than 3000 hectares. The garden is named after the river Towkok, on the bank of which it is suited. The garden is divided into three different estates and is known for producing orthodox variant during the first flush. It is well accessible by its own tram trolley line, road, airways and railways.

Manjushree Tea Garden: This is another stunning and enormous property of Assam which is acknowledged for reintroducing Orthodox teas in Upper Assam. Tippy teas, Orthodox black blends, and CTC teas are a speciality of this garden where buyers from all over the world demand for it, especially Germans.

Nahorhabi Tea Estate: This estate got its name from Nahor trees because once this area had beautiful forests of it. It is one of the first gardens in Assam to accredit with ISO 9002 certification. It is spread over 650 hectares and is popular for producing high-grade traditional and CTC teas. Carrying out its traditional process of the tea industry and regular planting trees for maintaining ecological balance is what makes this garden authentic and worth visiting.
