What is piling?

Piling is giving a strong base or foundation to the building through using ahollow stemmed continuous augur to reach the required depth of the pile construction. After reaching the required depth forthe pile, the augur is slowly withdrawn and piles are placed up to the base or the ground. The cement mix is pumped with the augur and when the cement mix reaches to the ground, the augur is withdrawn keeping soil in up position along with the flight. Reinforcement is done to support the micro piles, sheet piles, suction piles and solder piles placed in the structure.

When is Piling needed?

A traditional shallow foundation is good enough when the ground condition is suitable and it has moderate load to support the base. There are many conditions in which piling work is advised such as when:

  • the water table is high
  • soil stability has been affected by the water
  • deep trench foundations from a previous building are still there

As existing foundation trenches are not stable and ground is not suitable for construction for more than two meters.

Types of Piles Used

  1. Sectional Augur Mini Piles- This type of pile with a solid or hollow centre is suitable for grounds with limited access.
  1. Grout Injected Continuous Flight Augur- To form the permanent column, the grout is poured down the centre of hollow and the big benefit of this pile is that it creates little noise or vibration.
  1. Steel Cased Bottom Driven Piles- Inserting these piles from the bottom instead of from the top means that these piles do not require heavy machinery and can carry loads between 5-85 tones.
  1. Steel Cased Grundomat Driven Piles- These piles are driven by the internal compressed air engine and are ideal for light loads like conservatories in restricted areas and create far fewer vibrations.
  2. Contiguous Piling- These piles are ideal for retaining the walls of the basement of the construction site.

Piling Scope

Piling is done to give the strong support to the building and requires additional support to keep the building standing. Piling is advised in places where soil conditions are weak and water table is high. It is also important in the places where vibration reduction and noise reduction are necessary. There are companies that are specialists in CFA piling, bored piling, jet grouting, micro piling, etc. You get all the latest technologies to conduct the piling work.
