Smartphones are integral part of our lifestyle and it is the most essential gadget that keeps us connected 24X7. Even though your Smartphone might be having a good battery life but often while travelling and using it continuously you might loose on battery juice. Though there are all kinds of tips and tricks on saving battery power but some of the tips given here are useful for both iOS as well as Android users.

Turn Off

When you are told to turn off, it only refers to certain functionality instead of the complete phone. Therefore you might require turning off certain apps or functionality to enhance the battery performance of your device. Often, when you are reading about battery saving tips it is more about putting on airplane mode. This mode does save battery but the thing is that this mode comes handy when you do not require checking e-mail or making calls. Instead of this mode it is sensible to turn off the features that you are not using continuously. Features like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi are actual battery drainers. Other things include turning off or trimming your notifications.

Low Light

The screen of your Smartphone is the biggest battery drainer. The brightness of the screen is what drains battery a lot. The bigger screen your gadget has, the more battery power is consumed in keeping it on or lit. It is better to turn the brightness down to low light.

Navigate through the following to set the brightness low or high.

In your iOS device go to Settings-> Wallpapers & Brightness

For Android users Settings-> Display-> Brightness

Vibrations

Most of us have the habit of keeping vibration mode on. Though at times it does seems the right idea but if vibrating mode is always on then the battery juice will drain out sooner than expected. Here is how you can fix it by making some settings in the vibration mode of your iOS phone.

Go to Settings->Sounds

Android users can go to Settings->Sound& Display->Phone Vibrate

Live Wallpapers

Android is popular for its animated wallpapers while iPhone is known for dynamic wallpapers that have stepped in with iOS 7. Having an animated screen or live wallpaper is cool and stylish but it is a complete battery drainer. It is essential to turn it off.

iOS users can go to Settings-> General-> Accessibility-> Reduce Motion-> ON

If you are using Android then go to Settings-> Sound & Display-> Animation

Latest Software

It is always advisable to keep the OS of your Smartphone updated if not that at least an updated photo app is essential. The reason why it is necessary is due to the fixes, enhancements and reducing battery drain. If you are using an app then it is essential to use the updated version of this app that is ad-free as all the ads displayed are power consuming.

In iOS phone go to Settings-> General-> Software Update

Android users can go to Settings-> About Device-> Software Update

Automatic Updates

Even though it is a great idea of auto-update of apps but on a regular basis this can lead to high battery consumption. Regular downloads and auto-updates will only put a pressure on battery life of your phone.

If you are using iOS then go to App Store->Updates

For Android users go to Google Play Store->My Apps

Other Tips

For iPhone Users

With the latest updates by iOS 7 there are things like motion effects that are complete battery drainers; you need to turn it off.

Go to Settings->General->Accessibility, turn on the option of Reduce Motion. Now go to Settings-> Settings->General>-Background App Refresh, here you get the option of turning off unused apps or apps that are directly draining the battery juice. Remember to turn off the apps that are running in the background.

Android Users

Android users go to Settings->About Phone->Battery

This will reveal you the battery consumption by any app or program that is currently running in the background. If you find some app or program consuming maximum battery power then it is advisable to kill it. You can also opt for an app like Juice Defender that automatically finds and kills apps that are consuming battery, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use.

The tips that are mentioned above are useful in saving battery juice and come handy when you are travelling. All you need to do is remember and deploy the tips to conserve the battery power of your Smartphone.
