Prosthetics are artificial parts of the body that are custom made to suit the requirements of the patients. Artificial foot, limbs and other body parts enable the patients to restore the abilities of the body parts that they have lost due to medical conditions or accidents.

Prosthetics come with several advantages. The first one is that it helps in the restoration of a body part after amputation. Some diseases such as cancer and diabetes may force people to amputate some areas of the body to prevent the disease from spreading to other parts of the body. Amputation would prevent a person from doing his or her tasks normally. Fortunately, the world of medicals science has advanced considerably to help patients recover from the loss of their body parts. Prosthetics enable a person to become whole again. Technology is constantly evolving to make these artificial limbs seem as natural as possible.

Different kinds of materials are used in artificial leg fitting and in the manufacture of other body parts. The choice of the materials is dependent on the requirement of the patient and on the material that is available. In the earlier years, the artificial arms and legs were mostly made of metals. While some doctors still prefer using the metal ones, there are others who do not recommend them due to their weight. Metal can be heavy and might cause a burden to the body. These days there are better metals including ceramics and pylons. They are lighter in comparison to metal and last longer as they do not rust.

Prosthetics are very beneficial for sports persons. Sports are risky and can often cause harm to the legs, arms and other body parts. The use of artificial body parts ensure that people who were injured earlier can take part in sports again. What is best about prosthetics is that they are the same as regular legs and arms. They do not have muscles that can become strained after physical activities.

For people who use prosthetics, there are different things to do to ensure that the artificial body part is in good condition. It must be checked at regular intervals, and examined for cracks, and wear and tear. If you feel that there is a problem you must report to your doctor immediately. You must keep it clean at all times and lubricate the joint of the prosthetic at intervals to ensure smooth functioning. Before opting for prosthetics, it helps to first consult your doctor and acquaint him or her with your requirements so that your doctor can design suitable legs or body parts for you.

Although artificial, prosthetics bestow several benefits. While they can never be as good as a body part, they can help serve your purpose. Orthotics in India is quite advanced and many people have benefited from it.
