Keyless remote replacement is a system to unlock a premise door or a car door without any physical key required. A remote keyless system (RKS) is an electronic lock which gives access to a locked vehicle door without the use of a mechanical key. The lock system is activated by a handheld device automatically within proximity of range. When within a few yards of the car, pressing a button on remote keyless system unlocks the doors and a remote keyless ignition system which starts the engine.

How does a keyless entry system work?

Originally keyless entry system referred to a system where a lock was controlled by a keypad located on the driver’s door or somewhere very close to it that would require entering or pressing a predetermined or pre-programmed code. The remote keyless system is widely used in automobiles and it performs the same function of a standard car key but without physical contact of key to the lock.

Areas where they are used

This kind of controlled access system into building premises or automobiles was designed to prevent shoplifting or automobile theft cases. Earlier thieves used to be on hunt with a set of Master keys which any one would fit and open the lock. With the invention of this keyless entry remotes the theft cases may have been reduced. The greatest advantage of remote controlled key entry is that only when activated in a very close range the vehicle gets unlocked. When key button on the remote is pressed and the signal activated when you are in the range proximity, a typical alarm sounds like twice indicating your car door is unlocked. The system signals that it has either locked or unlocked the car with some unique combination of flash lamp.

Some cars have a proximity system that is triggered if a key like transducer is detected within a certain range of the car. Sometimes called hands-free or advanced key one of the earliest systems was found on the 1993 Chevrolet Corvette and in Mercedes-Benz vehicles from 1998. Today this system has become very common.

System is designed such that the key is embedded into most modern vehicles and a small chip lies on the vehicle’s key or under the plastic cover. When any key is inserted into the ignition, the ignition is coded. The security code from the key is transmitted to the ignition which also has its own code and only if a match of the security codes is detected, the vehicle will start on ignition.
