Rise in foreign students numbers holding Canada Study Permits

The number of foreign students having Study Permits of Canada has been on the rise since as per recent figures from Canada Immigration Department.

At the end of last year, there were more than 4,14,200 foreign students who were holding Canada Study Permit.

The statistics also witnessed a key rise of around 63,000 Canada Study Permits between the year 2015 and 2016. A sharp rise is predicted for this year, with Canadian universities witnessing an important surge in a number of foreign students who are seeking to Study in Canada after Trump’s Administration enforcing strict laws in the US.

Increase in number of foreign students in Canadian Universities

Two leading universities of Canada, the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto have reported an important rise in a number of foreign students who are seeking to Study in Canada.

Last year, Toronto has welcomed almost 1,75,000 foreign students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The numbers represent 20% of an entire number of foreign students at this Canadian University.

British Columbia has got the second most increased number of foreign students who are pursuing an Education in Canada; figures have increased to around 14,500 last year when compared to just 9,100 previously.

The US has been dominating the education market for foreign students. Other countries like the UK where the Brexit issue was on the rise. With these two competitors for foreign students facing political issues, Canada is getting benefited.

Canada making efforts for foreign students to stay in the country

Canada is making efforts to make it easy for foreign students to stay in the country and obtain Canada PR after completing their graduation.

The federal government of Canada introduced points under the system of Canada Express Entry in the month of November last year. CRS points were included to three-year masters, post-secondary, doctorates, and professional degrees. 15 CRS points were added to post-secondary diplomas with the duration of one or two years.

The Canada Immigration Department had also promoted the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program that includes a category that was targeting foreign graduates. It was started earlier this year to get workforce in the Atlantic provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Quebec also started the foreign graduate stream, that forms part of its Quebec Experience Program is the only provincial program that provides Canada permanent immigration to diploma holders and graduates degree holders without an employment offer.

The Ontario province under its Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program is running related program without the requirement for an employment offer, but it is targeted at Ph.D. and Master’s graduates.

Canada Post Graduate Work Permit

Foreign students could already qualify to Work in Canada after completing their graduation by applying to a Post Graduate Work Permit. Here they could get valuable work experience in the country through a special job permit granted for the period of a study program that lasts up to a maximum duration of three years. This work experience can then be utilized towards qualifying for Canada PR.

Post Graduate Work Permit Eligibility Criteria:

Students should pursue a full-time education in Canada in a program that lasts a minimum of eight months of duration. Students must have graduated from any post-secondary institute or any private institute which is recognized by Canada. Applicant should submit a work permit application within three months of getting written confirmation of completion of their studies. They should also get a notification of entitlement of getting a certificate, diploma or a degree. Should also have a valid Canada Student Visa or Canada Study Permit.

Working after Study in Canada

There are many alternatives that are available for foreign students who seek to Work in Canada after completing their Study in Canada. Foreign students can continue to pursue an Education in Canada by taking advanced degrees. They could also return home with a Canadian diploma, certificate, degree and job experience that is highly recognized across the globe. Students can also gain job experience in Canada.

Working in Canada qualifies you for Canada PR

Getting additional job experience in Canada after completing the graduation could go a long distance towards helping you in becoming Canada permanent residence. Foreign students on Canada Student Visa or Canada Study Permit could avail Canada PR under provincial or federal immigration programs without leaving the country.
