weather conditions

Bike rides can be fun and entertaining, and bike racing can give you ten times the thrill. In both cases however, there are a couple of factors you’d need to look at and consider very closely before you could jump into action. Some of the key things that you’d look at would be weather conditions, protective gear, and your level of insight about what you do.

Good Weather

Favourable weather conditions are an obvious requirement for bike riding and racing. Heavy showers, chilly winds and storms are definitely not the best atmospheric conditions. Not only can they hinder your performances, but can be extremely unsafe and make you more prone to accidents. Racing events and competitions are usually scheduled following a thorough forecast of the weather. However, if there happens to be a sudden unpredicted change in the atmosphere during a racing competition that can prove to be unfavourable, the races are usually postponed until the ideal weather conditions are restored.

Riding Gear

Essential riding gear may include motorbike helmets, riding apparel, boots and gloves. Helmets are usually found in different types, each to suit a different requirement. Fully covered helmets are meant for hard core sport, while there are also flip-face ones, and open-face helmets, which are likely meant for regular or daily use.

Riding jackets and pants are designed to resist water, excessive cold and heat, and to protect the rider from possible physical injuries. They are made from high quality leather or similar fabric to facilitate high levels of protection. Comfort becomes an equally significant concern when it comes to designing these types of apparel as riders will have them on for long periods of time, usually over an inner layer of clothing.

Boots and gloves again, are mostly made of protective leather material that provides protection for the rider’s hands and feet. Additionally, they can be specifically designed to provide a strong grip so that there are zero chances of his hand or foot slipping off during riding or racing. They can be purchased in many different qualities and brands according which their prices and rates can vary.

Awareness

Knowledge and skill becomes key when you want to qualify as a professional rider. Apart from riding techniques and crazy stunts, you’d also need to possess a general awareness about how to deal with sudden breakages, or what you’d do when your bike suddenly catches fire. You’d also need to know the types of first-aid that can be applicable during a certain accident and everything else connected to a biking scenario.

Owning a motorcycle as your convenient mode of transport is much more different a case than one where you are a full-time racer owning a top, best racing bike. Both cases can vary drastically in terms of purpose, requirements and rules. The basics, however are more or less, common to both, and when it comes to safety, in particular, there is just one rule for all those riders out there: Be aware and take your precautions.
