The overwhelming advantages of showers over bathtubs have made bathroom shower installation a very popular project among households. When you embark on this important upgrade, you get to save water and time taken for bathing. Alongside, the other benefits include a hassle free maintenance and enough space to plan some additional amenities inside the bathroom. However, every shower installation project must take into account a few dos and don’ts that will ensure the success of the project. Hence, before commencing the project, consider the design very well and make sure the project is engineered to perfection in order to get the desired results. this will also help avoid the unnecessary expenses during the process.

  • Before mounting a glass door in place, ensure there is a proper blocking. In line with the shower curb, there must be 3 or 2 inches by 4 inches placed vertically in the wall. This is necessary for hanging the glass door safely and securely in place. Never run pipes or wires via these studs.
  • Construct the shower curb in a level side to side together with a half an inch inward pitch. For cap the shower curb, you can depend on a continuous piece of solid surface material.
  • View shower doors also as doors. Like any other door in your home, there should not be any base tile, chair rail tile or other accent tile placed in the jamb area where the glass enclosure is to be mounted. Arrange to hold back large accent tiles farther from the glass mounting area.
  • Avoid any overhangs, tub decks, knee walls or shelf areas. Ask your tile setter to notch these overhangs. Some types of overhangs can make it impossible to install a door or enclosure.
  • Place the shower heads and body sprays in a way that the water spray will be towards the fixed panels of the shower doors or the tile walls. With this arrangement, you can ensure that the water stays within the shower enclosure and also away from the door. Never install a shower head projecting in the direction of the door.
  • There are protection limitations specified for tempered glass. The minimum width recommended for a tempered glass panel is 5 inches. Hence never incorporate a glass panel smaller than 5 inches wide.
  • It is not advisable to use glass tiles in the area of the shower where the glass enclosure is to be mounted. Though they might not crack during the time of shower installation, there are chances that they crack eventually over a period of time and hence this idea is never safe.
  • Never design the shower enclosures in unconventional angles. All the shower door hardware is designed to go well with 90 degrees, 135 degrees or 180 degrees only. The same principle applies for walls, curbs, tub decks and knee walls too.
  • When you construct a soffit or when you tile a ceiling above a shower, do it perfectly in the right level and plumb to the curb. If this is not done, then you risk the inconsistency of the reveal above the shower door.
