7 Easy Ways to Get Rid of Unpleasant Smells in Your Home
Posted: Nov 03, 2017
One of the biggest problems of every household are the unpleasant smells. No matter how often, and how thoroughly you’re cleaning they are sometimes inevitable. Don’t let this be the reason for people thinking that you’re a sloppy housewife. You can use these little tricks in order to get rid of the unpleasant smells and make your home welcoming and cosy.
1. Cinnamon for your carpets.
You may think that spreading spices on your carpets is the exact opposite of cleaning, but this is one of the best ways to make your home smell nice. Sprinkle just 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon on your carpet and after that vacuum it. It will leave your home smelling sweet and welcoming.
2. Lemon in the garbage disposal
It is natural that your garbage disposal doesn’t smell nice. However, that doesn’t mean that it is mandatory for every home. In order to get rid of the unpleasant smell rinse some lemon rinds through it and after that run hot water. The lemon will not only remove the bad odor but also leave it smelling fresh and nice.
3. Baking soda against pet odor
No matter how much you clean after your pet, your home still has that specific smell that only pet owners are familiar with. There is a way to get rid of it. Spray some baking soda on the bed of your pet. Leave it to soak up for a while and then vacuum it.
4. Baking soda against nasty smells from the fridge
The solution to unpleasant smells coming from the fridge is simple. You need to use again your best friend in the kitchen - baking soda. Open a box of it and stick it on a shelf in the back of the fridge. You will need to change it annually and to keep it away from the food.
5. Vinegar for fried food odor
If you are a fan of fried cooking you definitely need to know this trick. The smell of the fried food can become ingrained in your cabinets and drawers. One of the solutions is washing them with warm soapy water. However, for immediate results after cooking, you need to boil a cup of vinegar. The vapors that release into the air cut the other smells. The only problem is that the vinegar will cause the kitchen to smell bad, but don’t worry about it. It will be just for a while.
6. Vinegar to wash away unpleasant dishwasher smells
The only thing you need to do is to pour two cups of vinegar into the bottom of your dishwasher. After that run it through a cycle without any dishes. Again, you should be prepared for the vinegar smell to stick for a while, but this will be only for about an hour.
7. Cigarette smoke
In order to remove the unpleasant smell from cigarette smoke, you will need to take a hand towel and pour white vinegar over it. After that all you have to do is walk through the room swinging it in the air. This will remove the bad smell faster than you can imagine.
Finally:
Don’t forget to open the windows frequently. Flooding your home with fresh air is the best practice, which you can use to get rid of the unpleasant smells. You can also light a candle from time to time or put a piece of orange peel next to your heating appliances. Actually, that's the second best practice. The most efficient one would be not to have bad odours in the first place. You can achieve that by booking professional cleaning at least twice a year. By doing so you will make sure that your home is cleaned up to the highest standard and there is no place where bad smells can come from.
