What is Sesame Seed?

Sesame seed is an oilseed which is one of the oldest crops ever known to human beings. According to Wikipedia, it was domesticated more than 3000 years ago. Domestication here refers to the act of adopting something to human use. So, it was recognized and adopted into human use over 3000 years ago. Now you can easily imagine how long it has been known to the human. This seed was considered a primary summer crop in the Middle East for thousands of years.

It is interesting to note that this oilseed can grow in even the dry areas as it does not require much water for the growth. It is considered drought-tolerant mainly because of the fact that it has a complete and extensive root system that goes deeper in the soil. It has a higher level of oil contents in it, more than most of the other oilseed crops known to human today. It is known for its nutty and buttery flavour and is used as a common ingredient in multiple cuisines around the globe.

It is known to grow in much quantity in Asia, mainly in India. Indian Natural Sesame Seeds are known for its great quality all over the world. Perhaps this is the reason exporters from India are very much popular in exporting industry. India is the market leader on the global platform when it comes to the export of quality sesame seeds.

Talking about the colour properties of this oilseed, it comes in various shades of brown and gray, and black.

What is hulled sesame seed?

Hulling is basically a process of removing the outer husk of the seeds. The seeds without husk are called hulled seeds. Indian Hulled Sesame Seeds are in great demand all over the world.

The hulled seeds are preferably used in bakery and confectionary products. Because of its unique properties along with the taste, there is hardly any alternative to natural sesame seed.

As discussed above these seeds are widely used in Middle Eastern, Greek and Asian cuisine. The reason for this can be sought from the fact that it has been to these regions for a very long time. As a result it is available at cheaper prices in these regions.

These oilseeds in grown even in the other parts of Asia other than India, but the Indian Natural Sesame Seeds have always been known for their great quality. This is the reason importers from around the world always prefer India for importing these natural oil seeds.

It is grown in several states of India. However, farmers do not usually get the best price for efforts in growing this crop. But when these seeds are exported outside, there comes a huge difference in the cost. But even after this alarming fact the production of sesame seeds are growing every year in India.
