As the pipeline transportation is particularly suitable for transporting oil and gas, the pipeline is widely used in the petroleum and petrochemical industries. The former Petrochemical Corporation processes 120 million tons of crude oil per year, most of which use pipeline transportation. Each year, it produces more than 50 million tons of steam, coal and diesel oil, of which 80% need to be transported by pipeline. The petrochemical enterprises have either gaseous or liquid chemical materials. The delivery is also done mainly through the pipeline. Therefore, petrochemical enterprises need to use a large amount of steel pipe for their annual capital construction and production and maintenance. Moreover, due to the petrochemical industry is characterized by high temperature and pressure, flammable, so the use of steel is very strict requirements.

In recent years, the international trend of replacing high-cost smls pipe with erw pipe has emerged. This is mainly due to the continuous breakthrough in the production technology of welded pipe, which is manifested in the following aspects:

1. The progress of desulfurization technology, reducing the sulfur content of steel, improve the quality of steel pipe welding. (2) The application of vacuum degassing technology to improve the purity of the tube strip, reducing inclusions, the weld quality. (3) Due to the addition of special elements such as V, Ti and Nb, the carbon equivalent is reduced, and the toughness and strength of the steel pipe are improved.(4) The development of hot rolling technology, to improve the dimensional accuracy of the strip, thus reducing the dimensional deviation of the welded pipe. (5) The improvement of quality inspection methods, such as ultrasonic non-destructive testing, hydraulic testing machine and other equipment to ensure the quality of the final product.

With the continuous improvement of the quality of welded pipe, many developed countries in recent years have extensive use of straight seam resistance welded steel pipe instead of seamless steel pipe for oil casing, pipelines, chemical pipelines. According to statistics, 50 enterprises in 17 countries around the world produce longitudinally welded pipes for oil drilling, of which 16 are in the United States and the annual output has reached 800,000 t. The world's largest?660mm (26in) straight seam resistance welded steel pipe and the production of the fastest straight-seam resistance welded steel pipe production line in Japan, Japan is the world's production of pipe varieties, the most widely used countries, pipe surface coating processing technology in the international on the leading position. In Germany, Demag-Mill products, represented by the welding pipe production equipment, can produce oil drilling and other advanced pipe.

Straight seam resistance welded pipe and fluid delivery with seamless steel pipe, with significant economic, mainly in: less investment; mechanization, high degree of automation; low energy consumption (room temperature molding, and seamless steel pipe for the thermoforming or drawing forming); low production costs, 2/3 of seamless steel pipe; continuous production, high productivity.
