Ford says the latest Transit is the most important new car it will be producing in the next two years. The list also includes Mondeo and facelifted Fiesta. This shows the seriousness of Ford about its big-selling van. The Transit is also part of the Ford’s ‘One Ford’ line up which means a vehicle will be sold in the same spec all round the globe. Ford Transit comes in three variations of 2.2 litre TDCI diesel engine used in the outgoing model. The power output will be 99bhp, 153bhp and 123bhp respectively. Ford Transit has been equipped with stop-start which makes it around eight per cent more frugal than the van it replaces. Hence, the CO2 figures now stand at 178g/km and delivers 42.8mpg. These remarkable numbers continue into the load bay. Ford is claiming that its van has a maximum capacity of 5,520 litres. That’s a massive 330litres more than the old SWB Transit. Behind the wheel, you could think that you’re in a Focus. The dash is nearly the same, with a rational layout and solid buttons. Nonetheless, this is still a van, and some of the plastics used are not up to Ford’s passenger cars standards. The visibility is great but large A-pillars can make junctions a bit awkward. The TDCi is sophisticated, and motorway driving is a piece of cake thanks to a generous 350Nm of torque. It goes from 0-62mph in 13seconds and the top speed is 98mph. The Transit has a box like shape and is brilliantly quiet on the move. The steering weights well so it feels very safe. It has some flaws though: the high mounted pedals quickly become awkward. The latest Transit feels more like a car to drive than ever, but it is practical in every way. The top-spec limited costs £21,245 which is slightly more expensive than all its rivals. The premium you pay is certainly worth it as it has the best performance of all the vans in the market. The Ford Transit is at its best now and the new addition to the range that has sold more than two million units in the UK since 1965. It now has a more car-like driving experience add to that a decent performance and fuel economy; it truly is a comforting choice. The new Transit Custom lets you down with poor visibility and somewhat awkward pedals. It is definitely going to continue Ford’s commercial vehicle success.

The transit is safest ever vehicle from the Ford production line-up with the ESP as standard in all transits and the electronic brake assistant is equipped with the disc brakes on all wheels. It has refreshed shape and body work looks nice. The all new transit is safe and sound if you compare it with the old models because it is made of 18% more strengthen steel and the same steel used in the doors. In the case of accident this hardened steel keeps the vehicle in shape and the drivers can evacuate easily. On the Euro-NACP crash testing the ford transit has won five out of five stars and also stand first by winning the Euro NACP Advanced Rewards for the class leading safety features and advanced technologies on the commercial vehicle
