Several people are feared trapped under the debris of a three-storeyed building which collapsed in Bhiwandi powerloom town on Friday, an official said.

According to the Disaster Management Unit of Thane, the Bhiwandi building collapsed around 9 a.m., in K.G. Nagar, Navi Basti.

At least two persons have been rescued. They were rushed to hospital in critical state.

Five more were still believed to be trapped under the rubble, the official said.

The city fire brigade, two teams of the National Disaster Response Force and other agencies have been mobilised for the rescue operations.

A portion of a four storeyed buliding was reported to have collapsed in Thane’s Bhiwandi on Friday morning. The collapse has left one person dead and five injured. At least 17 people are suspected to be trapped under the debris.

According to initial information, two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed on the site to carry out rescue operation. A green corridor was enabled for mobilisation of NDRF teams.

A four-storey building in Bhiwandi's Nehru Nagar area collapsed today morning around 8am, killing one person and injuring five.

As the NDRF team and fire brigade are yet to reach the spot, locals have begun a rescue operation. As many as 16 people are feared trapped under the debris.

A portion of a ground plus three-storey residential building in Bhiwandi collapsed on Friday morning, claiming one life and leaving at least six others injured so far.

Officials with the Thane Municipal Corporation said that the collapse occurred at around 9:00 am on Friday on the Nayi Basti locality in Bhiwandi. Fire brigade and civic officials reached the spot in around half an hour and commenced rescue operations.

"By 10:00 am, a decision was taken to call in the National Disaster Response Force and two teams were mobilised," said a senior civic official.

Rescue workers have so far pulled out one body and rescued six others from the debris and around 20 residents are still feared to be trapped inside, said officials.
