Maxicare is one of the best ways to care for your wooden windows and doors. This German engineered, superior quality sealant is water-based, and available in five colours, namely light oak, imbuia, teak, mahogany, and white.

The benefits of using Maxicare

This new, water-based, low maintenance sealant provides the following benefits:

  • It is a quick-drying product, specifically developed to lengthen the life of wood
  • Being a Wash ‘n Wipe maintenance product, it eliminates the need for sanding
  • It contains UV inhibitors to protect your wood from the harmful rays of the sun
  • Maxicare contains anti-fungal agents, which significantly reduce the dangers of

dry rot and fungus

  • It is an extremely elastic product which expands and contracts with wood
  • Using water-based Maxicare will give a matt finish to wooden doors and windows
  • Being water-based, Maxicare is both lead-free and non-flammable
  • Maxicare is an eco-friendly product

How to use Maxicare to protect your wooden windows and doors

Surface preparation

  1. Make sure that wood surfaces are clean and dry and free of debris.
  2. Any mould or fungus present can be removed with a mixture of water and fungus cleaner.
  3. Rinse well with clean water, and allow surfaces to dry.
  4. Sand the surface by first using a medium grit (80 to 100-grit) sandpaper, and then with a 220-grit fine sandpaper.

By following this preparation prior to using Maxicare, a good bond is created between the product and your wood, ensuring an excellent finish.

Preparation of sealed surfaces which have been neglected

  1. Remove peeling and flaking paint from the surface.
  2. Sand the surface and remove dust by wiping with a damp cloth.

Applying Maxicare

  1. Clean the surface by wiping with a damp cloth.
  2. Thoroughly stir the product to make sure that the paint and pigment are properly mixed.
  3. Apply one coat of Maxicare with a brush in the direction of the grain, using smooth and even brush strokes.
  4. Allow to dry thoroughly, for no less than four hours.
  5. Lightly re-sand the surface using 220-grit sandpaper, before applying the second coat.
  6. If a third coat of Maxicare is necessary, simply repeat the above steps.

Coverage

Spreading rate is normally in the region of 8 – 10m2/1, but this could vary, depending on how absorbent the wood is.

Storage of Maxicare water-based sealant

This product should not be kept for longer than one year. It should be stored at a temperature of between 5 and 38 degrees C, and as it is water-based, should never be allowed to freeze.

For optimum results, make sure to do the following:

  • At least one coat of Maxicare should be applied before installing wooden doors and windows
  • Care should be taken to seal all six sides
  • All rebates must be sealed before glazing
  • Beading should be sealed on all sides
  • Maxicare water-based sealant and Maxicare Solvent-based sealant should always be used separately and never applied one over the other.

Make sure that your windows and doors stay looking as good as new, by inspecting them every six months, and if necessary, apply Maxicare Maintenance Kit, the simple Wash ‘n Wipe wood protection program, specifically developed to make wood maintenance simpler, and at a much lower cost.
