Regulatory Compliance to a Market Surveillance System Can Rebuild the Public’s Trust
Posted: Mar 25, 2014
In the current troubled economic climate, more potential investors are holding closely onto their money, for fear of losing the little savings they are able to acquire. While a healthy market requires investors to be risk takers and unafraid, the current climate has left people terrified to invest in what previously would even seem like a sure thing. In this type of climate, regulatory compliance with a market surveillance system is absolutely mandatory. This helps assure potential investors that their money is being monitored and well cared for and that the brokers they are using to invest their hard earned income are answering to higher authorities who have the investors’ best interests at heart.
This is especially necessary with the current attitude towards the stock market, successful investors, and brokerage companies. A Market Surveillance System is one of the few ways to possibly alter this attitude, and most companies would much rather work with regulatory compliance guidelines versus stricter federal guidelines and brand new laws. After the Occupy Wall Street movement, there is a deep seated bitterness and mistrust in the public towards any economic companies and with Wall Street itself. After scandal after scandal, the public is fed up and is no longer complacent to all the disagreeable activities that have put the average investor’s money at serious risk. No one wishes to have their life savings gambled away fruitlessly by a reckless Wall Street worker.
While people are mistrustful of Wall Street and investment and brokerage companies, there is also a deep distrust of the government to regulate such systems properly. Therefore, regulatory compliance can be an even bigger comfort as it is clear that the companies who comply are following these regulations because they wish to make them seem like a far more ethical company than if they were simply doing what they were supposed to do. This is especially true since people are mistrustful of the government, and are not prone to trust a company just because they follow government regulations.
To keep the market alive and healthy, regulatory compliance is a highly necessary tool in order to regain trust. The market is nothing without investors who are willing to plunge in, take risks, and trust brokers and investment companies to care for their money. Peoples’ mortgages, their children’s’ college educations, and even their retirements are at stake, and so investors obviously want to be as confident as possible that their money and investment will be treated with the greatest ethics and respect.
