Pregnancy and the post natal period is when women need maximum care, help and pampering. This is because she is not a single entity anymore. Any and every requirement of the baby comes from the mother. While the baby grows inside the mother’s womb one of its vital requirements is Calcium. Since the baby’s bones are still under formation a lot of calcium is absorbed by the baby. At this juncture if the mother is unable to get the amount of calcium required for the baby the baby starts using up the mothers calcium present in her bones and this causes calcium deficiency in the mother.

Calcium deficiency is a far serious problem that what you think it is. This is not some temporary deficiency that happens during pregnancy and can be fixed after the delivery. The calcium that is depleted from the bones causes bad bone health. The bone density decreases and with age the mothers bones will become brittle and prone to fractures.

There are many food items that you can add to your daily diet to get a rich supply of calcium. At times in pregnancy it’s not easy to eat as you keep vomiting and throwing it up. In such cases it’s a must that you take proper calcium supplements.

Calcium rich foods are in plenty and it shouldn’t be too easy to add some to your diet.

  1. Milk and cheese - this can be added with ease. Cheese can be added onto any of your favorite breads, pizzas, pastas etc. Milk can be converted into milk shakes, curd, buttermilk etc.
  2. Spinach - No wonder Popeye the sailor was such a strong man. Spinach is filled with calcium and adding green leafy vegetables to your diet can only be good.

  4. Beans and figs - A few beans and a fig a day ca sure keep all your calcium deficiency problems as bay.

Nuts and Cereals - Both these taken every day will help you get your daily dose of calcium and you need not worry about obesity as well.
