Throwing a Baby Shower? Take Out the Dinnerware!

Baby showers always take a bit of extra planning. What separates a pleasant baby shower from an absolutely cracker one is attention to detail!

Naturally there are the usual themed balloons, streamers and decorations that we use to do up our homes on such occasions but let’s not forget the old favourite; dinnerware! What to do with all that?

Well apart from the usual planning tips that you can find online, we figured we’d get specific and focus on what you could do to arrange and bring out the best in the dinnerware you have stocked at home!

l Tables and Surfaces

Make sure all the tables and other surfaces in the house that you wish to decorate and clean and spotless before covering some with your favourite tablecloth and leaving others bare to boast the beautiful old wood from which they may be carved.

l Open Space

People like bringing in gifts during baby shows and as hosts, we know that those gifts contribute to the decor! Keep a space dedicated for gift boxes, bouquets and other such items so that you can pile them up as you get them. This table should not be used for any cutlery or tableware.

l Little Plates, Big Plates

Give your guests the freedom to pick their portions. Look for a dinner set that has at least two different plate sizes. You can stack these up on a counter with napkins in between for people to grab on their way to the buffet table (yes, we recommend these). Alternatively, you can use display racks to show off your beautiful china. You can even use multi-dispensary racks which are easy to use and make those plates shine!

l All Those Glasses

A smart thing to do is place your cups and glasses on a surface dedicated to just that. Sometimes visitors might have popped in only long enough for a drink and a laugh; hence it makes no sense for them to have to wade through a series of plates and entrées to get to a teapot or punch bowl!

For those who love tea, you can use cup and saucer stands and really make things look classy!

l The family dinnerware

Last, but not least, those old china plates and dishes with the Japanese style painting on them that your grandfather might have gotten back when he traveled north of the equator by ship! The kind you want people to see but might be weary of using because you know they just don’t make them anymore.

Make such tableware a feature by placing it on wall hangers or intricately carved wooden display stands. Your guests will likely be very impressed!
