The network monitoring department is responsible for managing and maintaining the company's network. Until recently, a majority of the company used to have an in-house department for doing these networking tasks, however, with the rise of service industries, the outsourcing of the network monitoring option has become much feasible. In this article, I will be discussing various factor that a company needs to consider before deciding whether to go for the outsourcing option or not.

You must, first of all, have to take the decision regarding the scale of the outsource of network monitoring. The scale of the outsourcing depends on the needs of your company. That is to say, the company can decide whether to outsource the complete networking operation department or a particular segment of it. For instance, if you already have an established network management section but do not yet possess the customer support department, you can outsource the customer support, while at the same time, keeping the network management section in-house.

The factor that plays a decisive role in making the company go for a network monitoring firm or not is cost. Each company has to consider whether the outsourced network monitoring is a cost-effective option as compared to the in-house option or not. If, in the final analysis, the outsourced network monitoring option turns out to be cost-effective, the company should go ahead with it.

Employee training is another thing that needs to be considered before deciding upon the network outsourcing decision. A company whose employees are well-trained in various aspects of network monitoring has no need to outsource their operation. However, if a company has no such trained employees then the best option would be to go for the outsourcing route. Training and/or hiring skilled employees can make the company spend large amount of money, which is completely unnecessary, since an outsourced network monitoring services can be availed at a much lower cost.

A factor that can become decisive in making the outsourcing decision is the uptime requirements of your networks. The outsourced network monitoring agencies maintains a round-the-clock uptime but at the same time, the in-house team would be unable to do so. Due to this reason, if the company's networks are in need of constant uptime then outsourcing the network monitoring operation would be a better option.

A number of company refrain from using the outsourcing services for the fear of making their company's department alienated from other departments. However, this fear is completely ungrounded as these outsourcing services have excellent communication department that will keep you constantly updated with their work report.
