Calipers are a great measuring instrument, especially for getting most precise sizing of an object. A caliper is a measuring device used for gauging the precise distance of an object or within an object. It has two tips which are put on two ends of an object. Then the caliper taken away from the object and the distance between those two tips are measured to find the required dimensions. The caliper also has an inbuilt ruler which denotes the measurement. The use of calipers in Ontario has significantly increased with time, so has its usage in other parts of the world.

Varying Types Of Calipers

You would find a good number of and different types of calipers, in the market. Each of them is suitable for different uses. When you are looking for calipers in Ontario, you must check out all the available types to know which one is best suitable for your need. Let’s take a look at some of the different types of calipers and their possible uses.

  • Dial calipers: True to its name, this particular variety of caliper has a dial on it with indicating needles. The measurement of objects is displayed on the dial. The beam of the caliper has a measuring scale which notes the reading of dimension of a given object. The obtained measurement from the tips is combined with the reading on the scale. Ideally, a dial caliper is used for measuring the outer side of an object and even its inner side, step and depth measurements.
  • Vernier calipers: This typical caliper is equipped with dual scales, giving you imperial as well as metric measurements. You would find its scales on its top and bottom. This type of calipers is used for measuring outside, inside and even depth of objects.
  • Jenny calipers: It is a typical caliper commonly used for drawing a line and set distance from the edge of an object. It is also used to locate the centre of an object.
  • Spring joint calipers: You will find this caliper with two legs, one spring and with an adjusting nut. You can adjust the space between its two legs with the adjusting nut. But you can only measure inner side of outer side of an object and not both. You will need to measure the distance on a separate scale, because this instrument doesn’t have an inbuilt scale.
  • Micrometers: Often you need to measure tiny objects too. The regular calipers available in the market might be too big for the object. So, for those objects you can use micrometers. This special type of micrometer is used to gauge the dimensions of very small objects. Micrometers are specially used by mechanical engineers for measuring either the dimensions of blocks, or inner and outer diameters of shafts, or even depths of slots.
  • Digital or electronic calipers: The advancement of technology has had its impact on calipers too. The latest type of caliper is the digital or electronic calipers. It has an internal microprocessor which notes the position of its two jaws; calculate the distance and display the measurement in is display window.

So, when looking for the best caliper in Ontario, you have a wide range of options to choose from.
