With the passing of time, outdoor games are becoming less preferred as compared to indoor games. Not only children even elders prefer to be inside rather do some physical activities thus helping them stabilise their physical needs. But still their are a few games which are being played all over the world on high to low stages. One of them is football or soccer. Football is very old game which was first played in 19 December 1863 in London. The game consist of two teams of 11 members each playing on a rectangular field and trying to score a goal. This is a game which is meant to be played by kicking the ball and not touching it with hands and arms except the goal keeper. The major competition held in football is FIFA, organised every 4 years, in which almost every country participate to show their skills in the game.

In India football is the second most popular game after cricket. India also have AIFF ( All India Football Federation) established in 1937 which joined FIFA in 1948. Football is being played at 3 levels

  1. National Competition
  2. Club competition
  3. International competition

The football development in India have led to these 3 major competitions in which Indians had and are showing their skills and giving tough competition to others as well. The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup is scheduled to take place in India. Just because of this reason of hosting the tournament, India will also be automatically participating in it. Now if we come to a point of Football Leagues Their are 11 leagues in total as described below.

1. Indian Super League (ISL)

ISL or Indian Super League is a professional team played by men. The league is officially known as Hero Indian Super League because of sponsorship. It is one of the most important league counted by the side of I-League.

2. I-League

The league was currently founded in 2007 and is now the top and most important league played. It's been contested by 10 clubs and due to sponsorship reasons it is also known as Hero I-League.

3. All India Football Federation

The league was found in 1937 and was affiliated by FIFA in 1948. It runs and sanctions all football leagues and tournament at national level i.e. I league and federation cup.

4. Federation Cup

The tournament started in 1977 in India is an annual knockout style club football tournament. 8 teams play in this league in which current holder for federation cup is Bengaluru FC.

5. I-League 2nd Division

It is the second highest division after I League. It was founded in 2008 consisting of 12 teams. It was previously known as National Football League 2nd Division.

6. Santosh Trophy

It is an association football knock-out competition contested by AIFF. It was found in 1941 and 31 teams play in this tournament. Current champions in the game is West Bengal team.

7. I-League U18

I-League U18 founded in 2011 is the top level of youth football in India. It was previously known as I-League U19 and is played by 35 teams in total.

8. Calcutta Football League

It is a football league system where Clubs of Calcutta participate to compete against each other. It is based on 7 tier pyramid system. Approximately 157 teams play in this tournament.

9. IFA Shield

It is a 1893 found game which is an annual competition organised by Indian Football Association. It have 10 teams in total in which current champions are FC Pune City.

10. Elite Football League of India

It is a professional American football league based in India found with eight franchises in 2011, and now has 23 franchises throughout South Asia.

11. Indian Women's League

It is the recent league founded in 2016 in which 6 teams participate and who's current champions are Eastern Sporting Union.
