Take the Advantage of Brick Vents and Provide Immunity to Your Buildings
Posted: Mar 27, 2014
Though modern constructions look very exquisite and contemporary, the strength of the building depends on how well the building envelope is maintained and protected. Provisions for ventilation are very much necessary to keep the whole structure away from moisture which spoils the appearance and more importantly, destroys the very strength of the building. To diffuse the intensity of moisture, small gaps are created under the bottom of the brick wall called "Weep Holes", which eventually were thought to have spoiled the aesthetics of the house.
It is at this point that "Brick Vents", were considered the best option to ventilate the brickwork of a building. Unlike weep holes, brick vents aid a lot of air flow due to bigger passageways and furthermore, increase the chances of drying. Brick vents can easily be sized to match the brickwork already done in order not to spoil the appearance. The exchange of inside air with the outside one is required to keep the house out of moisture, gases and other harmful pollutants. Improper ventilation may lead to accumulation of toxic air inside the place where you dwell and cause lung infections. The brick vents allow fresh air into the house and thus develop a lot of cross ventilation, which is an ample source of energy. In an air-conditioned environment, the houses are kept air-tight and ventilation is highly depended on the air-conditioning system which has a lot of complicating units such as dampers, ducts, actuators etc. If any of these units malfunctions, then the process of ventilation goes haywire. Whereas, brick vent does not require a big technology to perform the job. Despite the fact that installation of brick vents is not a painful and time-consuming process, remember that it should be handled by experts to avoid a repetitive course of action.
Brick vents can also be installed in an existing structure to improve the flow of air and control moisture accumulation. Bricks can be treated for keeping insects away from gaining entry. Even sub-floors can be ventilated with the help of brick vents. But, the vents must not be beneath the soil level, nor should they be concealed by gardens. Though brick vents are not as expensive as other forms of eradicating moisture, the installation process needs a well thought-out plan and execution. On the whole, if a house is aerated properly, the risk of developing ill-health and other infections gets distanced.
