Short Hindi stories and Hindi poems have a great impact in upbringing of the kids. We all have grown up listening stories from our parents and grandparents. In fact, story telling is like a tradition not only in India but also other countries. Studies have shown that story telling and giving moral values in childhood plays an important factor in a child's upbringing. It teaches kids to become a good human being and create a better society to live in. In a country like India, where kids are more attached to their grandparents, they can learn many short Hindi stories and Hindi poems from them and acquire knowledge. Here are few values which can be taught through short story/poem telling -

  • Wisdom – We all have heard the story of a thirsty crow. He searches for water everywhere and finally finds a small pot containing small quantity of water. Since the pot was quite deep, he was unable to reach to the water. However he doesn't give up and put some stones in the pot as the water comes up. Finally he ends his thirst and flies away. The moral of the story is "We should use our wisdom before giving up to any situation".

  • Power of Unity – A short Hindi story about a farmer and his five sons perfectly explains the power of unity. Once a farmer calls his five sons and tells each one to break a single piece of stick. They all break the stick in one go. The farmer again gives three sticks together to break. This time it requires some more efforts to break the sticks but they succeed. One last time the farmer gives 10 sticks together and ask them to break it. They tried hard but unable to break it. Then the farmer explain them if they live separately, it's easy for anyone to break them and use them but, if they live collectively, people will not be able to make any harm to them. Such is a power of unity.

  • Never become too greedy – Once there was a person who has a hen that lays golden eggs. Everyday the hen gives one gold egg and the man sells it out. In this way he became quite rich. However he became so greedy that he killed the hen in order to fetch all the eggs at once. Alas! to his misery, the hen died and he left with nothing in his hand. This story teaches the kids to not become greedy for anything in life.
