Humans have been using a wide variety of herbs and spices for thousands of years not only for adding flavor to their food but treating ailments as well.

It would not be wrong to state that humans are accustomed to using herbs and spices almost daily so that they can savor the flavor of their food. Keeping this in mind, it should not come as a surprise that dogs seem to reap certain benefits from the use of herbs and spices when added to their diet.

According to me, this is the best approach I recommend to every dog owner out there. Well, there are many (dog owners) who only rely on the use of herbs for dogs (discarding spices) for various reasons. It’s their decision what they use or don’t use to improve the health of their dogs, so there’s nothing much I could do about it.

Here’s a list of herbs and spices that are deemed safe for dogs:

Alfalfa - Alfalfa is rich in calcium, copper, iron, folate, manganese, potassium, silicon, zinc and other substances that benefit dogs in some way or the other. It also contains Vitamins A, B1, B12, C, D, E, and K. Moreover, it’s also an antioxidant that’s used to diminish pain as well as swelling associated with arthritis.

Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera juice is one of the most amazing herbs for dogs that include amino acids, iron, magnesium, zinc, folate, Vitamin A, C and E. It’s loaded with anti-bacterial, anti-iflammatory and anti-allergy agents. Moreover, it’s an anti-oxidant.

It’s important for you to know that 100% pure aloe vera juice can also be taken internally for improving the immune system. By doing so, it reduces the symptoms of allergies and also help the healing of wounds. Need I say more?

Basil - Basil is the one that’s highly rich in vital vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and oils that help one improve their health. If truth be told, it’s known for its healing properties that prevent disease and promote health.

Caraway Seeds - Caraway seeds are rich in dietary fiber, essential vitamins and minerals, and anti-oxidants (which help in fighting cancer and other diseases). These seeds seem more like a warming herb, so they keep the body warm. These seeds are also good muscle health.

Carob - Carob is low in fat and sodium. However, it’s much higher in calcium, fiber, and potassium. It can improve digestion considerably. It’s loaded with a natural sweetness and comprises fat next to none. In fact, there’s no caffeine in carob.

Even though it has a smell similar to that of a chocolate, it does not contain theobromine - the part of chocolate that’s detrimental for dog’s health.

Cinnamon - Cinnamon (Ceylon) has a pungent flavor that seems somewhat sweet. This spice is highly recommended to relieve vomiting and help in digestion. In fact, it’s known to have one of the highest anti-oxidant levels of all food sources.

Garlic - Garlic comprises germanium, which is an anti-cancer agent. It helps to regularize blood pressure. It also helps fortify the defenses of the body against allergies. It’s considered more like an aid used to fight and treat diabetes and other diseases pertaining to one’s heart, liver and kidney.

Ginger - Ginger is an anti-oxidant as well as anti-inflammatory which is used for treating upset stomach, nausea, heart problems and many more health problems. It can also reduce blood sugar levels.

Rosemary - Rosemary is one of the most effective herbs for dogs that are high in fiber and rich in vitamins. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-septic and other health promoting properties.

Other than the herbs and spices mentioned above, there are many that are deemed safe for your dog’s health.

Final Words

I strongly emphasize on using holistic medicine for my four-legged friend. This medicine involves the use of herbs and spices that help me immensely when it comes to treating my best friend’s wounds and find the most optimum solution for ailments and other diseases that can deteriorate his health.
