With the rise in the disposable income of an average individual, there is a rise in the number of owned vehicles. Personal vehicle usage is increasing manifold. People are resorting to personal vehicle usage as against public transport. This is in turn increasing traffic congestion in big cities. Finding a parking space in metropolitan cities especially during rush hours is getting more and more difficult. It often gets frustrating as drivers are seen circling around cities looking for traffic. Not just that, the parking fee in most cities around the world is getting more and more expensive. To combat this problem, there is an increasing need to provide sufficient parking for vehicles coupled with plenty of spots thus ensuring vehicle safety.

Recently, in a research paper, a proposal has been put forth of an automated Car Parking System commanded by an Android application that regulates the number of cars to be parked on designated parking area.

The proposed application is based on client-server architecture. The client is provided with an interactive Android based user interface for the process of pre-booking of parking slot. The client is required to pre-book a parking spot by giving his/her vehicle number. At the server side, that particular spot is already reserved and a buffer time is set for that particular client. The buffer time is the time when the client will have to reach the parking spot from his/her current location. If the client does not reach the parking spot within the buffer time, then the server removes the reservation from the spot.

An efficient android car parking application will majorly reduce car parking problem. It helps the client in finding out an available car parking spot, get the availability confirmed and reaching the place within the time slot. It also makes management easier.
