Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), molecular formula (CH3)3COCH3, is an organic compound generally produced by the reaction between isobutene and methanol in presence of a catalyst. Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) is a flammable, volatile and colourless liquid with a characteristic mild odor.
