What Causes Adult Acne?
Posted: May 07, 2012
Acne was once considered to be a nuisance with teenagers, but that is no longer the case. Kids younger than twelve and adults well into the thirties and forties could develop acne as well. There are so many adults who have not had acne when they were teenagers, but they later developed it during their adulthood. Adult acne only affects a select number of adult and it could be for numerous reasons. With teenagers, acne is common problem due to physical and internal changes that occur during that transition to young adulthood. Now, enough about teenagers and let’s talk about the causes and forms of adult acne.
Adult females have been known to get adult acne more often than males, and this is because they have more hormonal imbalance. The common places for acne to develop are on the face, neck, shoulders and the back. There are two major causes of adult acne and they are hormonal activity levels and DNA heredity. The acne skin condition itself is just the same as you see in teenagers, but with adults, it is often far less severe and physical. Some adults may have acne, but they’ll be barely visible.
Adult women who are pregnant will have a higher tendency to develop adult acne. This is because when you are pregnant, you will have a lot of hormonal imbalance. Due the increased level of hormonal activity, you will feel as though if you are under pressure or stress. With increased stress, hormones tend to cause acne in pregnant women. Adult acne in pregnant women will stay with them for about a year or so, but will slowly diminish. During the later stages of pregnancy, you should try to use natural acne treatments to slow down the development of further acne scars.
While you are pregnant, you may sometimes develop cravings for excess sugars, so you might be indulging in added sugar content. Eating lots of sugar has been linked with adult acne as well. If your diet contains high levels of carbohydrates and sugar, it would directly affect your blood sugar levels. The increased level of glucose levels will cause adult acne and it could possibly worsen existing acne scars. If you want to reduce your the amount of acne scars, you should slow down on any glucose intake with your diets.
Over the years, doctors have studied dark red meat and have concluded that there are excess fat and sebum content that will cause acne in some people. Even your everyday bedtime drink; milk, could be considered a cause of adult acne. Drinking too much milk will give you higher levels of hormones in your body. When interactions between different hormonal structures come into play, they start seeping through your skin to get expelled. This is one way in which adult acne forms on your body. If you can manage to get benzyl peroxide based creams from the pharmacy, you should be able to control the adult acne skin condition.
