There are numerous purposes that an engine lubrication system serves. The leading exporters of the Man spare parts explain the Purpose of Engine Lubrication System in this article.

The lubricating oil is regarded as the bloodline of an automobile’s engine. An effective lubrication of all the moving parts of an engine is essential for the optimum performance and working of an engine. The most prominent function of an engine lubrication system is to reduce the power required to overcome the friction when moving parts comes in contact with each other and also to reduce the wear and tear of the various rubbing and bearing surfaces, in order to increase the engine’s power output as well as the lifespan. It prevents the various components of the engine from going into the seizure and serious damage.

The lubrication not only works as a lubricant, it also serves a purpose of a coolant. The engine contains an oil cooler which extracts the heat from the engine bearings, cylinders and pistons before entering the lubrication system. You must have seen a lubricating film plastered to the wall of the cylinder and piston rings. The thin lubricating film acts as the seal to barricade the gases of combustion from entering to the crankcase. That’s why we say that an engine lubrication system plays a vital role in extending the lifespan and also to elevate the performance aspects of an engine.

An engine lubrication system has following functions,

  1. It helps in reducing friction resistance of the engine and the wear between the various moving parts that come in contact with each other.
  2. It helps in absorbing shock from the sudden load imposed on the oil bearings, by working as a cushion to that load.
  3. It also helps in wiping out possible impurities and foreign particles (metal, dirt, plastic, rubber, and other particles) from the lubricating oil that is supplied throughout the engine.
  4. It also extracts heat from the oil and the various moving parts of the engine.
