Kalashtami

Kalashtami is also known as bhairava Ashtami, dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairava. He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Kalashtami day is observed in every month during Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha. There are totally 12 kalashtami day is observed in a year. The Kalashtami day which falls on the ‘Margashirsha’ Month, that day is celebrated as ‘Kalabhairav Jayanti’. Lord Kala bhairava is the God of Time. The word Kaal means ‘time’ while bhairava means an ‘incarnation of Shiva’. He protects the eight directions of the universe. That’s why in all Hindu Temples has an idol of Lord Bhairava. In shiva temples, when the temple is closed, the keys are place before the statue of Lord Bhairava because he is considering as the protector of the temple.

Why Do We Celebrate Kalashtami

According to one version, one day there was a heated argument about who was superior of them all between Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. In that heated debate, Lord Shiva got angrier with a remark passed by Brahma. In that anger he took the form of ‘Maha Kaleshwar’ and cut the fifth head of Lord Brahma. After that, the devas and the people worship this form of Lord Shiva as Kala Bhairava. It is believed that devotee who observes fasting and offering poojas to Lord Kalabhairava on this auspicious day of Kalashtami will be blessed with happiness, prosperity and success.

How To Celebrated Kalashtami Festival

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Lord Shiva. On that auspicious day of Kalashatmi, people observe fasting and offering special prayers to Lord Kalabhairava to get the blessing from Him. Kalashtami pooja helps to attain success and prosperity in life. It gives relief from all sins and also helps to remove obstacles in life. Recite Kala Bhairava Katha and chanting Lord Shiva mantras on kalashtami day is also very beneficial to devotees. Black dog is the vehicle of Lord Kalabhairava. Offering food and milk to dogs on the day of Kalashtami is considered very auspicious.
