The chief USA student visa is an F-1 visa for academic purposes. Any overseas immigrant intending to study in the US will require this visa.

Below are USA Student Visa Requirements in the F-1 category in terms of documentation:

  • I-20 Form
  • I-901 SEVIS receipt
  • Passport with signature that is valid for 180 days after arrival to the US
  • Transcripts or diplomas from the former or current institutions
  • Description of program of study
  • Information on accommodation
  • Proof of funds for catering to living, travel, and tuition expenses for one year or duration of your studies

USA Study Visa Requirements may also include additional documents demanded by the local US Consulate or Embassy. These include DS-158A, DS-157A, and DS-156, as quoted by the H1 Base. These are available at the local Consulate or Embassy online.

Once you are offered the US Entry visa, you must inform the US institution regarding your arrival date. You must seek a new I-20 if the dates are deferred. You must also take care to ensure arrangements for your travel and accommodation before departure from your home nation. It must also be borne in mind that you cannot arrive at the US more than 30 days prior to the commencement of your program.

When you arrive at the US port of entry, you must possess:

  • I-20 Form with signature of the School DSO where you will study
  • I-94 Form
  • Valid visa with SEVIS identification number and BIR –the name of the school you will attend
  • Documents for funds
  • Valid passport

As a part of the USA Student Visa Process, I-20 Form and I-94 Form will be stamped by the Inspector of Customs and Border Protection. This will be after the determination of your eligibility for arrival to the US. It is an evidence of your legal arrival to the US. Form I-94 must be kept safe throughout the period of residence in the US.
