7 Quick Changes to Do In Your Resume

With the time everything evolves and brings about the changes. Resume writing is also not aloof from this process. There comes a time, when the clock ticks and prompts to do certain small but vital changes in the resume as well. Here are some quick tips and tricks to bring some changes in your resume and that too by spending a very less amount of time.
1 Alter the font: This trick is similar to a quick makeover. After some time, using the same font across your resume looks monotonous. Drift away from common Times New Roman, Verdana to a different font like Calibri, Cambria, Georgia to name a few. But remember not to be too much experimental as it might lose the readability. Make sure that the fonts are readable and clear. So, what are you looking for? Press Ctrl + A and change the font of your entire document.
2 Objective Statement: First of all, do not use the word ‘objective’ while writing one. Simply and clearly state the focus area of the profile. Same objective statement for all the job applications might not be suitable. Try changing the wordings, language and the way the statements is written. This would be the first thing that a recruiter will read through. So, be cautious.
- Address Not Required: Remove the address from the personal details section if you have not done so till now. If the job location is far way, recruiters might turn down thinking of the commute time you would spend in getting there. So, better to take the decision on your own whether it is worth to commute everyday for the job that you are willing to have, rather than leaving the decision on hiring manager.
- Add your LinkedIn URL: After you given your contact details, email id, state your LinkedIn URL link as well, so that if a recruiter wants to know something more about you, it shows a path to them. Your LinkedIn provides a ready reference to the recruiter and help them taking the decision of calling you for the interview or not.
- Take care of Skill section: Whatever you have quoted in your skills and competencies section might not be relevant in today’s context. So a quick assessment and addition of your current skills might do wonders. If you belong to those industry which require technical skills as well as functional skills, segregating them would be a good idea.
- Action Packed: Take a close look at the roles and responsibilities part of your resume. You will surely find some boring and backdated verbs such as ‘taking care of’, ‘acting as’, ‘responsible for’ to name a few. Instead of them charge up your profile by using words like, ‘led’, ‘managed’, ‘chaired’, ‘controlled’, ‘executed’, ‘headed’, if they go well with your kind of profile.
- Show your Growth: You might be working for a company for longer time, but probably ignored to show the promotion and growth which you have received. So, clearly show your promotions, multiple roles and positions of responsibilities clearly in the profile
