Before you set up your personal 3D printer to print a gorgeous object, it is essential to set up a perfect 3D design for it.

In fact, this is said to be the base of any 3D printed object which determines its quality and appearance after it is printed. And due to this, it is very essential to mind some basic design considerations which help to offer the most fruitful 3D printed outcomes.

Some of these considerations are as follows:

  • 45-Degree Tolerance: Most of the
resin 3D printers are designed to accurately print objects with overhangs less than or equal to 45o. However, anything greater than this would require support materials. Therefore, while you design the objects with overhangs, make sure the overhangs do not exceed the limit.
  • Support Materials: Though support materials could be more than handy, you could expect them to leave some marks on the outer surface of the printed objects, which do not appear too cheerful. Also, support materials could be a lot time consuming when you need to remove them. Therefore, wherever possible, design objects that need the least support materials.
  • Know What Your Printer Could Print: There could be some fine intricate details which could be away from the capabilities of your large 3D printer. For instance, you would need to determine the thread width of your 3D printer. Most of the 3D printers possess 0.4 or 0.5 mm nozzle and the rule of thumb says, "the minimum feature you could create would be twice the thread width".
  • For Interlocking Parts: The objects which have several interlocking parts should be designed in the fit tolerance. Many times, achieving perfect interlocking tolerances could be a hard chore. And for this, a perfect design with tests is one of the essential elements.
  • Use of Shells: If you are using your
personal 3D printer to print fine-featured objects, using additional shells would destroy its fine details. Therefore, ensure utmost carefulness while using additional shells.
  • The 3D Printer Resolution: The resolution of your 3D printer could be one great aspect and you need to adjust the desired model according to the best possible resolution. When required, you could slice the model into pieces and then reassemble it. Also, if the model has minute details to be printed, ensure to adjust the model accordingly before printing.
  • Adjust For Stresses: You could even prevent the prints from breaking by orienting the model to curtail stress. Make sure the print lines are upright and perpendicular to the applied pressure.

Creating a perfect design and adjusting it accordingly is what is the first step to print a perfect 3D object. Make sure you mind all the designing considerations well and come up with the most desired 3D printed figures.
