Every Monsoon, millions of high - school graduates across India will start applying to colleges with one goal in their minds - to get a dream job, set up a new venture, go for higher studies, and ad infinitum.

However, students often lose sight of their vision while choosing the college that can help them achieve their goals without compromising on learning or creativity. But there is one educational institution in Andhra Pradesh that offers best of the both worlds.

Narasaraopeta Engineering College (NEC) has recently joined the elite league of the best engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh for placements after the elevation of its status to CM Skills Centre of Excellence by the Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation (APSSDC).

The State government’s skills and employment wing has recognised the efforts of the JNTU - Kakinada - affiliated Narasaraopeta Engineering College in drawing major companies to its native region, Palnadu and creating employment opportunities there.

Situated in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, NEC brings an abundance of IT, automobile, and mechanical giants to its college every year. And each year, almost all students who apply in these companies have been selected via on or off - campus placement drives. Some of the most popular companies that regularly absorb students of NEC include Tech Mahindra, Justdial, Mindtree, Paytm, Varun Motors, and more.

The elevation means that the APSSDC will give the college a massive grant to build a centre dedicated to research, entrepreneurship, and employment training capabilities at the latter’s campus. The new status will also allow students of the higher - education institution to seek jobs at reputed engineering firms through the Andhra Pradesh government’s name - building a level of trust between the companies and the college, and making the employment process easier.

Besides this reason, employers also are being attracted by the wellspring of technological innovations and entrepreneurial ventures that the higher education institution is creating in the Guntur district. NEC has a native business incubation centre, Andhra Technology Business Incubator (ATBI) under Startup NEC, which has recently received accreditation from the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (Ministry of MSME), Government of India. The recognition means yet another massive grant to the college for entrepreneurship.

Andhra Technology Business Incubator (ATBI), under Startup NEC, gathers business ideas and transforms them into thriving businesses. Recently, three new ventures dedicated to the development of healthcare, hospitality, and education have emerged from the incubation centre in Guntur. The centre has nurtured a total of 12 startups since its inception, with three start-ups - Digi Doc Times, Haas Pro, and Book Buddy Shop - being the most successful ones.

The college’s efforts are boosting Palnadu’s economy and driving the region towards modernisation. The college has an exclusive training and placements cell, headed by their Dean Dr P Lakshmanan - a renowned doctorate holder and the author of several research papers.

Besides providing an office for companies to set up camp and absorb undergraduates, the placement cell allows companies to review the college’s curriculum and suggest corrective measures and updates to keep it on par with industry trends and benchmarks.
