Akhilesh Srivastava – An Imminent Contributor to Highway Infrastructure Development

Technology is gradually creeping its way through the everyday activities of every person in India. The effect of it is not just limited to the common citizens but even the highest of authorities and officials around the country are adopting methods to boost the notion of Digital India a step further. Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (IT and Highways Operations) of NHAI is not an exception to this concept. He is the man who has been working his way through to modernize the national highways across India, introduce the integration of technology for an effortless journey of the commuters and encourage the idea of sustainability for a brighter future.

These projects are a glimpse of what Mr Akhilesh Srivastava is doing on a much bigger scale for the betterment of the Indian Highway Network. Owing to these initiatives and contributions, he has recently been awarded the Achievement Award in the Public Officer category in the 10th Vishwakarma Awards, conducted by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC). The event was held on 07th March 2018 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Mr Akhilesh Srivastava’s vision regarding the future of highway operations is very distinct and clear. He is working on implementing ways to boost the highway operations with the integration of the latest technology. He believes that this will not just enhance the work process but also ensure real-time monitoring of the ongoing highway projects.

The geospatial technology and implementation of drones is yet another project that Mr Srivastava is supervising. He is also encouraging the young minds and youth of the country to take up the training courses associated with the same. The main reason behind this is to increase the number of employment opportunities in highway sector.

The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) project, designed by Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, is still under process. According to him, he is still working on ensuring that every single toll plaza around the country has at least one lane dedicated to ETC and FASTag for a smoother toll tax collection. He is also working on the Wayside Amenities project, and implementing it across the national highways of India, for a better commute experience.

Mr Akhilesh Srivastava has been working on a number of projects such as the Road Assets Management System and Traffic Incident Management System, and more. These projects are still in the budding stage but will impact the overall development of the highway infrastructure in India.

Apart from these achievements and initiatives, Mr Akhilesh Srivastava is also going to attend the 4th Annual Roads and Highways summit which will be held from 9th April to 11th April 2018. The event is going to be held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore. Several distinguished officers from the construction industry are set to grace this event, and from the Indian side, Mr Srivastava will be speaking on the Chinese government's OBOR (One Belt One Road) initiative, and Highway Modernization for Better Effectiveness and Sustainability.
