We have all experienced a situation or event where we couldn’t focus or concentrate as well as we would have wanted. This may happen at work, at the university, at the gym or training class and even in our personal lives with our friends and family. Some people however, instead of resorting to taking natural focus supplements, prefer to make up their diet of brain enhancing foods that they can easily find in the market. These foods are not only known for their natural ability to improve focus and concentration, but also improve memory, clarity of thought and promote a healthy brain function.

In this article, we are going to cover the three best foods (in our opinion) that can improve focus and overall mental performance and list a few others that act in a similar healthy way. Keep reading to find out more:

Blackberries

Blackberries, and berries in general, are great anti-oxidants that can promote health as they are high in Vitamin C, fibre and manganese. Being an anti-antioxidant can protect our brain from free radical damage. Berry fruits can alter the way neurons in our brain communicate; this ultimately means that they can prevent inflammation in the brain preventing damage as well improving focus and overall cognition.

Green Tea

Green tea is great beverage with the ability to improve focus and concentration as it contains both caffeine and l-theanine. We are all aware of the fact that caffeine can certainly assist in improving alertness and attention. In addition l-theanine, is a nutrient that can improve tranquillity as it releases caffeine more slowly without leading to a mental crash as coffee does after a few hours of consumption. Combining the two ingredients can produce the effect of improved focus and quick response times.

(Leafy) Green Vegetables

Green vegetables and in specific, leafy green vegetables are full of antioxidants that can improve your ability to improve your brain performance and at the same time protect your brain. Most types of leafy green vegetables of full of B vitamins, like vitamin B6 and B12 which are known to help you remember and focus better while providing mental clarity, e.g. eliminating the mental fog.

As mentioned earlier, these are not the only foods that can improve your attention span but they are certainly our favourite. Other easily accessible foods that have similar health benefits include cocoa, avocados, flax seeds, chia seeds, almonds and nuts in general, salmon, mackerel among many others. So next time that you visit the supermarket or market make sure to go for the healthy choice as it will directly benefit your health and well-being.
