In the recent years, stem cells therapy has been emerging as the most feasible option to treat variety of degenerative ailments, which cannot be treated with the help of conventional treatment options. Number of clinical evidences have been accrued from vast availability of data to evaluate the immense potential of stem cells therapy as a modern medicine.

Various doctors are in this regard, supporting stem cells therapy in India; pointing it to be the most revolutionary way to cure the root cause, with the help of body’s own repairing mechanism. Although, the therapeutic outcomes are very encouraging, to declare it to be the mainstream medicine; sufficient clinical evidences are needed, which can be obtained through large variety of clinical trials. Thus, undoubtedly, stem cells treatments are very promising and can prove as the potential alternative for futuristic treatment pattern, but are still in vogue for clinical applications.

Stem cells are identified to be the mother cells of our body, with the ability to differentiate into multiple cells types, for the generation of entire cellular system. In fact, these are cells, which lay the strong foundation of internal metabolic pathways and functioning ability of our body. This tremendous capacity has been exploited by medical fraternity to offer cure to various diseases, ranging from spinal cord injury to mental retardation.

Technological advancements have allowed easy isolation of these stem cells from various sources of our body, such as bone marrow and adipose tissues. These cells are collected from specified sources outside the body, enriched in the laboratory and are infused back at the site of injury. A large fraction of isolated pool of stem cells is associated with the presence of mesenchymal stem cells. Studies have revealed that, these stem cells exhibit strong anti-inflammatory properties to regulate immune system of the body. This extensive immune regulation is thought to be helpful in creating a suitable environment for stem cells growth, development and differentiation. Moreover, it has as well been estimated that mesenchymal stem cells show strong differentiation potential towards cells of different lineages, like mesodermal, endodermal, ectodermal, etc. Thus, recovery and effective therapeutic outcome, immediately after stem cells treatment can be attributed to production of suitable microenvironment for activating resident stem cells to initiate a biological reaction. This, in turn can transform a weak, non-functional tissue, into its healthier counterpart, further allowing it to be less inflamed and offering substantial pain reduction as well as functional restoration.

While multiple issues are still limiting their unlimited applications, like number of stem cells to be infused, optimizing different routes of administration and derivation of tissue specific stem cells to increase the therapeutic outcome. Various studies are ongoing in this regard, with each day bringing us one step closer to their therapeutic application; there is still a long way to effectively apply the potential of stem cells in therapeutic arena.
