Introduction

In an organization, one of the key departments is that of Human Resources. This department is mainly responsible for managing and handling issues related to the employees, working in coordination with the management of the company to develop strategies that will ensure a sustained growth of the company. As a manager from this department, he or she is responsible for recruitment policies, hiring or firing of an employee and manage employee-management interpersonal relations.

Recruit

The efficiency of an organization depends on the employees that are hired and considered as assets. As a human resource manager, he or she is responsible for Staff Recruitment process and prepare a selection checklist. The manager will need to understand the need of hiring a candidate and identify a vacancy in a department. This will be followed by preparing a job description, devise recruitment plan and develop a search committee to identify an appropriate candidate for the position. These people could be anyone having direct or indirect relation with the applicant. Once a recruitment plan is finalized, the job details are posted in different career portals and talent sourcing firms to provide leads. Following this process and shortlisting of resumes, the applicants are evaluated basis their qualifications and are interviewed to validate the information that has been provided by them. There may be multiple rounds of interviews conducted by managers and department heads depending on the position. The final selection is done based on the results of the interviews. The documents submitted by the candidate are then validated as well as reference letters are checked by the supervisors before final hiring process starts.

Hire

As an organizational policy, it is the responsibility of a Human Resource Manager and his team to identify and hire the best employees required for a specific position. As mentioned above, he or she will need to evaluate a candidate properly and interview thoroughly so that the selected candidate is best suited for the position. Once the hiring process is completed, the manager will need to process all the paperwork and provide orientations to the employee for understanding the company policies and rules.

Training

When a candidate is employed, he or she may not be skilled in certain areas that are required for the job but may have been hired based on his/her qualifications. However, after the hiring process, Human Resource Team conducts different programs to train and mentor these employees for further skill development and improved performances. It can be an ongoing process held in multiple sessions. Also, depending on the requirement and scale of the program, the Human Resource Manager may choose to outsource the program to an external agency and only supervise it.

Team Building

One of the essential works that a human resource manager is required to do for the maximum benefit of the company is to conduct team building sessions and activities. With such activities, the employees get an opportunity to improve their communication with other employees, motivate to perform as a team and boosts morale when an individual is playing the role of a team player. There may be employees who find it difficult to interact with the employees from other departments. Such sessions and activities can create ice breaking situations that may help these employees to gel with each other better.

Employment Relations

Apart from hiring and retention process and working in coordination with the company, a Human Resource Manager is also responsible for maintaining healthy employee relations. They are required to develop policies in accordance with labor issues, help and advice managers and the team mates on personal matters. There can also be issues with pay scale or salary negotiations. As a Manager, he/she is responsible to bargain and come to a healthy negotiation that benefits both the parties.

Organizational Development

As a Human Resource Team, conducting regular training sessions is important. However, from the perspective of the organizational development, there may be separate requirements such as Leadership Programs for junior associates or announcing programs for equal opportunity to excel for certain group employees need to be conducted. These programs may require specialists to design and develop and conduct as per schedules. The Human Resource Manager may need to develop or supervise such sessions/programs.

Conclusion

Human Resource Managers is often considered to be the representative of the organization to the employees for they are directly responsible for communicating, associating and maintain cordial relations with the employees. The growth and development of a company largely depends on these professionals.
