Akshaya Tritiya - is it only about buying gold?

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is a holy and auspicious annual springtime festival observed in several regions of India. In Sanskrit, the word ‘Akshaya’ means ‘imperishable, endless, eternal, or the never diminishing’ and ‘Tritiya’ means ‘third’. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third lunar day of the Vaishakh month of the Hindu calendar. Considered as an auspicious day for new beginnings, many people start new business or personal ventures, invest in property and gold, schedule marriages and the like. It is also a day to pay obeisance to the departed souls. Generally, people associate Akshaya Tritiya with buying gold because it is the symbol of wealth and prosperity, so investing in gold on this day signifies ever-increasing opulence. But is Akshaya Tritiya only about buying gold? Well, not exactly!

According to scriptures, chanting, praying, and offering charity on this auspicious day is considered virtuous.
